Overview

Carol Davis is a London-based disputes partner whose practice centres on high-value international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. Qualified in England & Wales and admitted to the DIFC Courts, he represents energy majors, financial institutions and sporting bodies in proceedings before the LCIA, ICC, SIAC and the English High Court. Recognised by Legal 500 UK as a “Next Generation Partner” for International Arbitration, Carol regularly lectures on arbitration advocacy at Queen Mary University of London and serves on the steering committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Young Members Group. Prior to joining Severn Chambers, he completed a client secondment with BP’s global disputes team.

Experience

  • Lead counsel for a UK energy super-major in a US$3 billion ICC arbitration seated in Paris relating to a long-term LNG supply contract with a Middle-Eastern state entity.
  • Represented a sovereign wealth fund from the Gulf in an LCIA shareholder dispute worth over US$1 billion arising out of a fintech joint venture headquartered in London.
  • Advised Barclays Bank plc in successfully defeating a US$600 million fraud claim before the Commercial Court stemming from alleged misselling of FX derivatives.
  • Counsel to an international reinsurer in a Bermuda Form arbitration (US$450 million) concerning business interruption losses arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Acted for a Premier League football club in expedited CAS proceedings securing eligibility of a marquee player following a disputed transfer fee clause.
  • Defended a UK-listed biotech company against a group action in the High Court alleging product liability in connection with a gene-therapy trial.
